McCall Hall Hair as Art Show March 2010 Part one

Seattle Opera was kind enough to ask me to create a display for their lobby. After going through a collection of my work from photo shoots we agreed that it was best to display the photographs of Elizabeth Raab (ElizabethRaab.com). Dawn Tunnel (DawnTunnel.com) did the makeup on the clothed models and I did the makeup on all the other women. The display was up for four weeks and was a hit! Here are some photos of the display, what was displayed and some close up of the heads. Enjoy.

The Desmo Photography Collection

My favorite photographer, Elizabeth Raab, has been getting a lot of press lately! Her amazing work was recently chosen by Ducati as "official art in their fine art collection". Consequently I am tickled to report that much of my hairstyling and makeup work is also now in the official fine art collection! For more then five years Elizabeth and I have been collaborating on a variety of photographic projects. It is nice to see her getting the press she deserves! I have included just a few *wink wink* of the blogs, magazines and sites that are all a buzz over these images at the bottom of this posting!

Prior to this, in 2010, I was invited display a "Hair as Art" show for Seattle Opera. We were able to install variations of the images- they were cropped so the hair was the main focal point.

I am delighted at all of the press Elizabeth has been getting. She is a fantastic photographer and I am honored to not only work with her but call her a friend.

Fantastic Safe Cosmetic Web Site

OK If you have not already found this site you MUST check it out!

http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/
and
http://www.safecosmetics.org/

This is my new favorite website! I have never seen a collection of cosmetic information quite like this. You can search by brand and/or products. (I recently went in to Sephora and spoke with the trainer for Tarte. Tarte is one of the safest department store brands- at least that is what they are marketing.) I was so happy to find out more information on just what ingredients are in the products and what is known about the ingredients. www.cosmeticdatabase.com/ made my searching really simple and easy. I can not recommend this site enough. There is a fantastic video on the main page of www.Safecosmetics.org that really clarifies and explains what it is all about. I am no longer willing to be poisoned by beauty products. The two do not need to go hand and hand. Take a moment and check out how safe (or more likely unsafe) some of the items you are using every day are. Educate yourself and then tell your friends and neighbors! Lets make a difference!

Danyale is back to work at Pure Alchemy

Danyale and some of her favorite guest artists on Leverage.
Bill Engvall-you can't help but smile around this guy!
Johnathan Frakes- absolutely lovely!

Clancy Brown- such a cool professional!

After completing my commitment to the television series Leverage on TNT- I am back!

What an exciting adventure I had. In one season I worked over 1800 hours, visited most of Portland and the surrounding areas, spent four days shooting in the forest (in the rain) and had the opportunity to work with some amazing hairstylists. All in all- we had 4 new department heads in hair on the show. This gave me a vast opportunity to see different techniques at work. I made some great friends and had fun chatting with the stars. I am glad that I took this chance to work on a televising show.

However, with that being said I think it is my last one. I really missed my husband, my clients and Seattle. I am so excited to be home and back to work at the salon!

Give me a call and lets set up an appointment if you would like to hear more... :)

Vegan Raw Fudge

I am learning more about raw food diets. Like any new way of eating I always test out the desserts first! I recently made this fudge and thought I would share the recipe.

This recipe is from my good friend Laurie Vukich co-creator of NaturesKnockout.com. Check out her youtube video at:

http://www.youtube.com/user/naturesknockout#p/c/2334CBC19A790A38/5/-nztP50IsM8

on how to make this and other tasty treats. (She and her daughter Tiffany originally started the site to educate consumers about unsafe cosmetics.) I think these two are fantastic!

1 cup organic (non-hydrogenated) coconut oil
1 cup organic agave nectar (this is pretty sweet- feel free to reduce a little)
1 cup organic unsweetened coconut flakes
1/2 cup (3/4 carob powder, 1/4 cacao powder)
1 cup organic almonds

Blend all ingredients in a food processor and pour in to a pan 6x9x2 in size. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Then enjoy!

A few things to think about:

A small serving is plenty- a large serving will make your tummy ache (yes I know this for a fact... especially if you try and eat it for breakfast!)

FYI- This is NOT a low calorie item.

There is some debate about coconut oil- it is high in saturated fat. I have been doing some reading on the subject and I feel comfortable with a small portion of coconut oil in my vegetarian diet.

Lastly- the fudge will stick to the bottom and sides of the pan. I have yet to figure out how to remedy this. I was thinking of lining it with wax paper next time since it is all cold and the wax will not be melted. If you have a solution please feel free to share it with me!
